Create A Peace Corner

Create A Peace Corner

You need:

1. a small corner in a home, community centre, waiting room, place of worship, school, office, parking lot - anywhere - indoors or out. We used a corner with 2 walls which were about 3' wide, just outside the kitchen in our church.

2. a sign naming the corner and inviting people to contribute articles, art, anything that lets people know where peace is brewing/breaking out/being lived or talked about. We called ours The Missing Peace Corner and we framed the invitation.

3. a bulletin board. Around it are some doves, a few peace signs, peace art and peace flags. On it we have posted information about Project Ploughshares, names of good peace, justice and environmentally-sound websites, info about the University of Calgary Peace Consortium, announcements about our peace camp, rallies, regular events like the Women in Black peace vigil, announcements about peace concerts, new peace books, articles clipped from magazines and newspapers, invitations, whatever seems relevant. Occasionally there is a piece of art from a child or someone adds a great peace button or bumper sticker.

(We also have an arm chair and a small book case to hold older articles and magazines such as "Yes!" and "Peace Magazine".)

4. at least one person to keep it up to date and tidy - it's lovely if a few people do. It's quite informal.

Our idea is that peace means Peace Within, Peace with the Natural World, Peace in Families and Communities and Peace in the World.

Ta-da!
