Established Camps

Saturday, September 4, 2010Through the power of the pen, the determination to be the difference, and the courage to create change, author and workshop leader Carolyn Pogue and therapeutic clown and laughter yoga teacher Fif Fernandes seeded "The Art of Peace - A Camp for Kids" in 2006. Each Peace Camp is independent and unique.

Today there are 6 Peace Camps in Canada.  In 2009 "The Art of Peace - A Camp for Kids" was invited by the Uganda Faith Writers Assocation and World Vision to start a Peace Camp for kids in Northern Uganda for youth who had been brutalized by the 21 year civil war.

Through the arts, professional artists (writers, musicians, performers, drummers, dancers, visual artists, etc) and kids explore themes:

"I liked that we did a variety of different things but each day we focused on one idea to do with peace.  I really enjoyed that!"  Peace Camper

The energy in this space is really quite incredible.   Madina really enjoyed all aspects of the camp. (the music, stories, crafts and hearing what the other children had to say eg:  the boy whose Dad is building a school for less fortunate people.  The take home surprises (pins, magnets, tattoos, etc) were a great treat for parents and kids.  Thanks so much for creating this magical space.  Thanks to all the helping hands that came together to make this Peace Camp such a meaningful experience for my daughter  Parent
